Free Crochet Newborn/0-3 Diaper Cover Pattern

This is the pattern for my Newborn/0-3 diaper cover. I’ve tried several different patterns, and eventually just decided to make up my own. Hope you enjoy! :)

Diaper Cover



What you’ll need:
 *Size H hook
 *I love this yarn or any WW in color of your choice
 *Tapestry needle for sewing in ends

Gauge: H hook, 9dc x 4rows = 2.5x2.5

Abbreviations:
*ch- chain                        
*BB- back bump
*sc- single crochet 
*dc- double crochet
*dcdec- double crochet decrease 
*CSDC- chainless starting double crochet
*tr- treble crochet 

0-3 Diaper Cover- With an any WW color and an H hook
Row 1: Ch 51 and turn, sc in BB of 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. (50)
Row 2: ch3 and turn, tr in each stitch across. (50)
Row 3: ch1 and turn, sc in each stitch across, tie off and weave in ends. (50)
Row 4: Skip 12 stitches from the right side and reattach yarn with a CSDC, dc in next 25 stitches. (26)
Row 5-7: ch2 and turn, dc across. (26)
Row 8: ch2 and turn, dcdec in first stich, dc across, dcdec in last 2 stitches. (24) 
Row 9: ch2 and turn, dcdec in first stitch, dc across, dcdec in last 2 stitches. (22)
Row 10: ch2 and turn, dcdec in first stitch, dc across, dcdec in last 2 stitches. (20)
Row 11: ch2 and turn, dcdec in first stitch, dc across, dcdec in last 2 stitches. (18)
Row 12: ch2 and turn, dcdec in first stitch, dc across, dcdec in last 2 stitches. (16)
Row 13: ch2 and turn, dcdec in first stitch, dc across, dcdec in last 2 stitches. (14)
Row 14-17: ch2 and turn, dc across. (14)
Row 18: ch2 and turn, 2dc in first stitch, dc across, 2dc in last stitch. (16)
Row 19: ch2 and turn, 2dc in first stitch, dc across, 2dc in last stitch. (18)
Row 20: ch2 and turn, 2dc in first stitch, dc across, 2dc in last stitch. (20)
Row 21: ch2 and turn, 2dc in first stitch, dc across, 2dc in last stitch. (22)
Row 22: ch2 and turn, dc across. (22)
Row 23: Reattach white yarn and sc around the edge of the diaper cover placing 2sc in each corner. Tie off and weave in ends. Sew on buttons according to the picture.

    1. I think it means the back loop instead of making a stitch through both loops.

    2. It stands for "Back Bump" as listed in the abbreviations. :)

  2. If I went down a hook size would this pattern be good for a newborn size?

    1. Depends on your tension, but that should work. I found this pic and follow it for sizing my diaper covers. (second pic)
