Free Crochet Turkey Hat Pattern

These Crochet Turkey Hats were so quick and fun to make! My little ones needed something for Turkey Day at Awana, so of course I had to put aside the rest of my orders to make them some! Hope you enjoy! :)

Turkey Hat

   What you’ll need:

* Size H and G hooks

* I love this yarn in brown, light orange, orange, green, yellow, and white

* Tapestry needle for sewing in ends

* 2 Black Buttons

Gauge: with H hook, 9dc and 4 rows= 2.5”x 2.5”

Abbreviations:

       *ch- chain

       *BB- back bump

       *sc- single crochet

       *slst- slip stitch

       *scdec- single crochet decrease

       *hdc- half double crochet

       *dc- double crochet

       *tr- treble crochet

       *CSDC- chainless starting double crochet

Note: I’ve omitted the chains at the begging of the rounds to get rid of the seam. I’ve added the chainless starting double crochet instead. The CSDC of each round will act like your chain and will be hidden in your work and not crocheted into. Make sure you place your last dc in the same stitch you placed your CSDC, and slst to the 1^st dc to join. You’ll be skipping over the CSDC when you slst to join.  (See pics below)

Newborn- With brown yarn and an H hook

Round 1: MC, ch1 and place 10sc in the MC. Slst to join. (10)

Round 2: CSDC, dc in same stitch, 2dc in each stitch around ending with a dc in the same stitch as your CSDC. Slst to 1st dc to join. (skip CSDC when you join) (20)

Round 3: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next, 2dc in next) repeat from * around ending with a dc in the same stitch as your CSDC. Slst to 1st dc to join. (30)

Round 4: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next 2, 2dc in next) repeat from * around ending with a dc in the same stitch as your CSDC. Slst to 1st dc to join. (40)

Round 5: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next 3, 2dc in next) repeat from * around ending with a dc in the same stitch as your CSDC. Slst to 1st dc to join. (50)

9mo-Child Eyes (make 2)- With an H hook and white yarn (use smaller or larger hook for different sizes)

Round 1: Mc, ch1 and place 12 sc in the MC. Slst to join. (12)

Round 2: CSDC, dc in same stitch, 2dc in each stitch around ending with a dc in the same stitch as your CSDC. Slst to first dc to join. (24)

Round 3: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next stitch, 2dc) repeat from * around ending with a dc in the same stitch as your CSDC. Slst to first dc to join. (36) Tie off and leave a tail for sewing. Add black buttons or crochet circles for the pupils.

9mo-Child Beak- With an H hook and orange yarn (use smaller or larger hook for different sizes)

Row 1: ch5 and turn, sc in 2^nd ch from hook and each ch across. (4)

Row 2: ch1 and turn, sc across. (4)

Row 3: ch1 and turn, scdec, scdec. (2)

Row 4: ch1 and turn, scdec. (1)

Row 5: ch1 and sc in each stitch around placing 2sc in each corner. Tie off and leave a tail for sewing.

9mo-Child Wattle- With an H hook and red/pink yarn

Row 1: ch15 and turn, place 2sc in BB of 2^nd ch from hook and each BB across. Tie off and leave a tail for sewing.

9mo-Child Feathers (make 4 in various colors)- With an H hook and colors of choice (use smaller or larger hook for different sizes)

Row 1: ch9, sc in 2^nd ch from hook, sc, hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc, place the following stitches in your last ch, (sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc,) continue up other side of ch, sc, hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc, sc, sc, slst to first sc. Tie off and leave a tail for sewing. (20)

Mini Heart- With a G hook and Hot pink yarn

Make all of the following in your MC

Round 1: MC, ch3, 2tr, 2dc, hdc, dc, hdc, 2dc, 3tr, slst. Tie off and leave a tail for sewing.

Mini Bow- With an H hook and Hot Pink yarn

Make all of the following in your MC

Round 1: MC, ch2, 2dc, ch2, slst, ch2, 2dc, ch2, slst. Tie off and leave a long tail. Wrap your tail several times around the center of your bow to cinch it.
