This pattern and the pictures are the property of Brooke Rabideau at SnugglyFoxDesigns or brabideau on Ravelry. Feel free to sell any items made, but please do not share this pattern or pictures. :)

Note: I’ve omitted the chains at the begging of the rounds to get rid of the seam. I’ve added the chainless starting double crochet instead. The CSDC of each round will act like your chain and will be hidden in your work and not crocheted into. Make sure you place your last dc in the same stitch you placed your CSDC, and slst to the 1st dc of the round. You’ll be skipping over the CSDC when you slst to join.  (See pics below)

1.  CSDC, DC in same stitch
2.  Place your last dc in same stitch as you did your CSDC
3.  Slst to 1st dc to join
       4.  Hardly a seam!

Earflap 2
Turn hat facing forward, and reattach yarn 19 stitches from the other side. (Make sure you're looking at your hat upside down when you reattach so your stitches will be facing the right way) Repeat Rows 1-11 of Earflap I. Attach hot pink yarn and sc around both earflaps and the front and back of the hat, tie off and weave in ends.

Braids
Cut 8 places of purple, 8 pieces of white, and 6 pieces of light pink yarn about 3ft in length. (you should already have 1 of pink on each side of your hat) divide the pieces out into two sections, fold one section over and attach to earflap. Braid and tie a knot at the bottom. Repeat for other side.

Outer Ears- With Light Pink yarn and an H hook
Row 1: ch7 and turn, sc in BB of each stitch across. (6)
Row 2-4: ch1 and turn, sc across. (6)
Row 5: ch1 and turn, scdec, sc next 2 stitches, scdec. (4)
Row 6: ch1 and turn, sc across. (4)
Row 7: ch1 and turn, scdec, scdec. (2)
Row 8: ch1 and turn, scdec. (1) Continue to sc down side of ear, across the bottom, and up the other side placing 2sc in each corner. Slst to join. Tie off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Inner Ears- With Hot Pink yarn and an H hook
Row 1: ch7 and turn, sc in BB of each stitch across. (6)
Row 2-4: ch1 and turn, sc across. (6)
Row 5: ch1 and turn, scdec, sc next 2 stitches, scdec. (4)
Row 6: ch1 and turn, sc across. (4)
Row 7: ch1 and turn, scdec, scdec. Slst to join. Tie off and leave a tail for sewing on to outer ear. (2)

*To attach the ears, place your Inner Ear on top of your Outer Ear and sew in place. Make sure to sew through only the top stitches so that your Hot Pink color doesn’t show through on the other side. Take your Light Pink yarn that is at the top of your ear, fold the top of your ear over and sew it in place. Weave your Light Pink yarn down the side of your ear to the bottom stitches. Sew the bottom stitches to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th rows of the left side of hat. Repeat for other side.

Round 1: MC, ch1 and place 6sc in the MC. Slst to join. (6) Now you’ll be working in continuous rounds.

  1. My 8 year old wants to be Twilight Sparkle for Halloween. This is perfect! She'll love that she can then wear it every day to school. Thank you so much for sharing. Saved my bacon.

  2. Hi I'd like to make this in a small adult size so using your pattern for the grover hat, please can you tell me though at what point would I start to make the ear covers and what size would I make them?
Also how much wool and what type would you recommend I would need? Thanks.

    1. Hey yeah you can use my Grover hat pattern teen/adult size till Round 17, and then follow my Unicorn pattern for Earflap 1. So after Round 17, CSDC and dc in next 11 stitches like Earflap 1 shows in my Unicorn pattern. I would also use a J hook when making the Unicorn ears instead of an H hook. You can use any wool you'd like as long as you meet gauge. You'll use less than a skein of each color. Hope this helps! 🙂:)

    2. Hi, I'm in the middle of making this in the adult size as above by using your grover pattern for the base, but I'm stuck. I've followed the grover pattern to round 17 as you suggested and have 80 stitches. You said to go from there to the ear flap 1 on the above unicorn pattern but the 80 stiches have only made a circle like the top of the hat. It measures only 18cm/7inches in diameter. There is no shape for the side of the hat even before doing the ear flaps, almost as if there is something missing, any ideas?

    3. Sorry just now seeing this...
You should have 70 stitches at the end of Round 17, so it sounds like you've been adding a stitch after every row which will throw off the shape of your hat. Did you follow the teen/adult pattern?

  3. Hi there, just reading over the pattern I noticed in the Outer Ears section, Row 1, it says to SC in BB of each stitch across. Can you tell me what BB is? Thanks, appreciate it, love the pattern! ~Esta

    1. So glad you like the pattern! :) The BB stands for back bump. Here is a Youtube tutorial for working in the BB. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XphqlWZR-pM&t=39s
