Free Crochet Love Bug Pattern

Love Bug

What you’ll need:

*Size E and H hooks

*I Love This Yarn in Red, Black, and Pink

*Crochet needle for sewing in ends

*Scissors

*Stitch Marker

*Stuffing

      

With an H hook

Gauge: 8sc and 8 rows= 2”x 2”

Abbreviations:

*ch- chain

*slst- slip stitch

*BB- back bump

*sc- single crochet

*scdec- single crochet decrease

*hdc- half double crochet

*dc- double crochet

*CSDC- chainless starting half double crochet 

*tr- treble crochet  

*MC- magic circle

Love Bug: With Black, Red, Pink, and an E Hook

Starting with Black yarn

Round 1: MC, ch1 and place 6sc in the MC. Slst to join. (6) Continuous in rounds.

Round 2: 2sc in each stitch around. (12)

Round 3: (*2sc, sc) repeat from * around. (18)

Round 4: (*2sc, sc in next 2 stitches) repeat from * around. (24) Carry the yarn up as you go.

Switch to Red yarn

Round 5: With Red, sc in each stitch around. (24)

Switch to Black yarn

Round 6: With Black, sc in each stitch around. (24)

Switch to Red yarn

Round 7: With Red, sc in each stitch around. (24)

Switch to Black yarn

Round 8: With Black, sc in each stitch around. (24) Tie off and weave in ends.

Switch to Red yarn

Round 9: With Red, sc in each stitch around. (24)

Round 10: (*scdec, sc in next 2 stitches) repeat from * around. (18)

Round 11: (*scdec, sc in next stitch) repeat from * around. (12) Tie off and weave in ends.

Switch to Pink yarn

Round 12:  With Pink, sc in each stitch around. (12)

Round 13: 2sc in each stitch around. (24)

Round 14-17: sc in each stitch around. (24)

Round 18: (*scdec, sc in next stitch) repeat from * around. (16) Stuff body and head.

Round 19: scdec in each stitch around. (8)

Antenna: With Red and an E hook

Insert your hook in one of your head stitches and pull up a loop, ch10, slst back in the head stitch. Tie off and weave in ends. Repeat on other side for 2^nd antenna. (See pics)

Right Arms/Legs (make 3):
With Black, Red, Pink and an H hook (make 1 of each color)
Row 1: Ch6, 3sc in the BB of 2^nd ch from hook, slst in remaining BBs. Tie off and leave a tail for sewing. Sew 2 arms on right side of Love Bug and 1 leg to the bottom.

Left Arms/Legs (make 3): With Black, Red, Pink and an H hook (make 1 of each color)

Row 1: Ch6, slst in the BB of 2^nd ch from hook and next 3 BBs, 3sc and slst in last BB. Tie off and leave a tail for sewing. Sew 2 arms on left side of Love Bug and 1 leg to the bottom.

Back Heart Wings: With Black and an H hook

Place the following stitches in your MC

Round 1: MC, ch3, 2tr, 2dc, hdc, dc, hdc, 2dc, 3tr, slst. Pull ring tight, tie off, and leave a tail for sewing to back of Love Bug.
