Free Crochet 8" Duck, 12" Duck, and 26" Flamingo pattern (MODs)

I'm exited to be able to add these fun modifications for you guys here on the blog!
My 8" and 12" Ducks were modified from the small 6" Duck pattern by HamandEggs. My big Flamingo was originally created by modifying the Flamingo pattern by Unkeldesign. Unfortunately that pattern is no longer available. I have since then created my own flamingo pattern based off of that one. For the Flamingo wings, I used the HamandEggs Duck pattern but modified them for larger wings. Let me know if you have any questions!

8" Duck

Please note: You must purchase the Duck and Flamingo patterns in order to make these bigger sizes. These are my notes for adjusting the patterns.

Bigger 8" Duck (from Duck pattern)

*2 extra rounds of increase
*3 extra rounds sc (18 rounds for head)

*2 sets of increase with hdc, 1 set of increase with sc. Repeat.

Beak-E hook

*6 rounds

Tail-G hook
*increase to (2sc, sc in next 7 stitches)

Feet- E hook
*9sc
*2 rounds of increase

*6, 8, 5
*6, 4, 5
*11 rows total
Don't forget to check out my Sarah pattern to go along with the 8" Duck too!

12" Duck (from Duck Pattern)
Head-E hook
*3 extra rounds of increase (8 rounds total)
*6 extra rounds of sc (23 rounds before color change)
Body
*8 extra rounds (35 rounds before starting the butt)
increase 15x to (2sc, sc 10) with 2 rounds sc between every 2 rounds.

**Your butt will look very frilly at this point, but it works out when you finish and stuff. It takes like a bag and a half to stuff, and when you stuff, the frills will smooth out. When you add the tail and wings, they will also cover any lumps that you may have.

*6 rounds sc
*sc around till dec 12x with (scdec, 3sc)
*sc around till dec 12x with (scdec, 2sc)
*sc around 2x
*sc around till dec 12x with (scdec, sc)
*sc around 6 times
*start your decrease rounds with scdec, 10sc. Continue to do your decrease rounds as normal till you get to scdec, 5sc. Repeat scdec, 5sc till you're close to closing the hole.
*Stuff, Stuff, Stuff. I wait to stuff the whole Duck till I'm at the scdec, 5sc rounds. Make sure you stuff a ton in the butt to smooth out the ripples. (Your stitches will probably pull at the hole after stuffing) Crochet a circle to close up the hole. I start with 6sc and increase to about 2sc, sc in next 10 stitches. Then sew the circle over the hole.

Eyes-E hook
*increase to (2sc, sc in next 3 stitches)
*2sc 6x, 9sc, 2sc 6x, 9sc

Tail-H hook
*increase to (2sc, sc in next 15 stitches)

Beak-E hook
*ch15
*sc 10 rounds

Feathers-H hook
*ch9
*6 rows sc

Feet-E hook
*9sc
*3 rounds of increase
*9,18,9 with hdc 2x
*9,9,9
*9,5,8
*18 rounds total

Flamingo
Body: E hook (You'll be making a big circle)
*MC, 6sc
*increase to (2sc, sc x 25).
*sc for 15 rounds
*decrease from (scdec, sc x 25) to (scdec, sc x 8)
*sc for 2 rounds
*decrease from (scdec, sc x 8) to (scdec, sc x 5)
*continue to decrease from 5 till closed (my stitches were pulling a lot after I stuffed, so I made another circle, and covered the hole instead.

Head and Neck:
Starting with Rosie II
*MC, 6sc
*increase to (2sc, sc x 10)
*sc around 12 rounds
*decrees from (scdec, sc x 10) till you have 22 stitches total.
*sc around for 12 rounds
Switch to Red
*sc around 8 rounds. (Start adding your support and stuffing)
Switch to Rosie II
*sc around till you have 80 rounds total.
*I found a bendable fake flower, cut the flower and leaves off and just used the stem for the neck insert. The stem was small enough that I was able to fit the bottom part through the side of the flamingo to help it stay up better. Then I sewed the rest of the neck to the side.

  1. Hi! So I have been asked to do the 12" pattern Duck for a coworker. I was just having some trouble understanding how to go about is. Are the '*' indicating indents/lines or for like the eye you say "increase to (2sc, sc in next 3 stitches)" and then have "2sc 6x, 9sc, 2sc 6x, 9sc". Are we increaing Round three of the original pattern to the "2sc 6x, 9sc, 2sc 6x, 9sc"? I'm so lost

    1. Sorry just seeing this comment! The * are to separate the rounds. So for the eyes, you start off with a MC and 6sc like the pattern says, you increase like the pattern till you have (2sc, sc next 3 stitches), then the whole next round is 2sc 6x, 9sc, 2sc 6x, 9sc and that will get you back to the start of that round.
