Free Crochet Elsa Hat Pattern

Excited to finally share my Crochet Elsa Hat with you all! Hope you enjoy! :)

Elsa Hat

What you’ll need:

 *Size H hook

 *I love this yarn in Peacock, White, and Ivory/off white

 *Crochet needle for sewing in ends

Gauge: H hook, 9dc x 4rows = 2.5x2.5

Abbreviations:

*ch- chain

*slst- slip stitch                           

*sc- single crochet 

*dc- double crochet

*CSDC- chainless starting double crochet

*MC- Magic Circle

Note: I’ve omitted the chains at the begging of the rounds to get rid of the seam. I’ve added the chainless starting double crochet instead. The CSDC of each round will act like your chain and will be hidden in your work and not crocheted into. Make sure you place your last dc in the same stitch you placed your CSDC, and slst to the 1st dc of the round to join. You’ll be skipping over the CSDC when you slst to join.  (See pics below)

0-3 Size Hat- With Peacock, White, and an H hook
Starting with Peacock

Round 1: MC, ch1 and place 10sc in the MC. Slst to join. (10)

Round 2: CSDC, dc in same stitch, 2dc in each stitch around. Slst to join. (20)

Round 3: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next, 2dc in next) repeat from * around. Slst to join. (30)

Round 4: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next 2, 2dc in next) repeat from * around. Slst to join. (40)

Switch to White yarn

Round 5: ch1, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next 3, 2dc in next) repeat from * around. Slst to join. (50) Tie White off and weave in ends.

Switch to Peacock yarn

Round 6-9: ch1, dc in each stitch around. Slst to join. (50)

Switch to White yarn

Round 10: ch1 and dc in same stitch, ch2, skip 1 stitch, dc in next stitch, (*ch2, skip 1 stitch, dc in next stitch) repeat from * around ending with a ch2. Slst to join. (25dc, 25 ch2 spaces) Tie White off and weave in ends.

Switch to Peacock yarn

Round 11: ch1 in any ch2 space, sc in each stitch around including your ch2 spaces. Slst to join. (50) Tie off and weave in ends. (Scroll down for hair and snowflake)

3-6 Size Hat- With Peacock, White, and an H hook

Round 1: MC, ch1 and place 10sc in MC. Slst to join. (10)

Round 2: CSDC, dc in same stitch, 2dc in each stitch around. Slst to join. (20)

Round 3: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next, 2dc in next) repeat from * around. Slst to join. (30)

Round 4: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next 2, 2dc in next) repeat from * around. Slst to join. (40)

Round 5: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next 3, 2dc in next) repeat from * around. Slst to join. (50)

Switch to White yarn

Round 6: ch1, dc in each stitch around. Slst to join. (50) Tie White off and weave in ends.

Switch to Peacock yarn

Round 7-10: ch1, dc in each stitch around. Slst to join. (50)

Round 11: ch1 and dc in the same stitch, ch2, skip 1 stitch, dc in next stitch, (*ch2, skip 1 stitch, dc in next stitch) repeat from * around ending with a ch2. Slst to join. (25dc, 25 ch2 spaces) Tie White off and weave in ends.

Switch to Peacock yarn

6-9 Size Hat- With Peacock, White, and an H hook

Round 1: MC, ch1 and place 10sc in MC. Slst to join. (10)

Round 3: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next, 2dc in next) repeat from * around. Slst to 1st dc to join. (30)

Round 4: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next 2, 2dc in next) repeat from * around. Slst to 1st dc to join. (40)

Round 5: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next 3, 2dc in next) repeat from * around. Slst to join. (50)

Switch to White yarn

Round 6: ch1, dc in each stitch around. Slst to join. (50) Tie White off and weave in ends.

Switch to Peacock yarn

Round 7-11: ch1, dc in each stitch around. Slst to join. (50)

Child Size Hat- With Peacock, White, and an H hook

Round 1: MC, ch1 and place 10sc in the MC. Slst to join. (10)

Round 2: CSDC, dc in same stitch, 2dc in each stitch around. Slst to join. (20)

Round 3: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next, 2dc in next) repeat from * around. Slst to join. (30)

Round 4: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next 2, 2dc in next) repeat from * around. Slst to join. (40)

Round 5: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next 3, 2dc in next) repeat from * around. Slst to join. (50)

Round 6: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next 4, 2dc in next) repeat from * around. Slst to join. (60)

Switch to White yarn

Round 8: ch1, dc in each stitch around. Slst to join. (60) Tie White off and weave in ends.

Switch to Peacock yarn

Round 9-14: ch1, dc in same stitch and each stitch around. Slst to join. (60)

Switch to White yarn

Round 15: ch1 and dc in the same stitch, ch2, skip 1 stitch, dc in next stitch, (*ch2, skip 1 stitch, dc in next stitch) repeat from * around ending with a ch2. Slst to join. (30dc, 30 ch2 spaces) Tie White off and weave in ends.

Switch to Peacock yarn

Round 16: ch1 in any ch2 space, sc in each stitch around including your ch2 spaces. Slst to join. (60) Tie off and weave in ends. (Scroll down for hair and snowflake)

Braid- With Ivory and scissors  

With Ivory/off white yarn- cut 40 pieces of yarn at about 4ft for smaller sizes and 5ft for larger sizes. Divide yarn in to sections of 4 and attach each section to the right side of your hat leaving 1 stitch between each section. Braid hair and secure with a bow in Peacock yarn.    

Snowflake- With White and an F hook

I followed this pattern from Simply Sweet Design with an F hook and white yarn to make the snowflake.
