Free Crochet Anna Hat Pattern

I've finally had the time to write up my Crochet Anna Hat pattern! She is available in sizes newborn-child. Hope you enjoy!

Anna Hat

What you’ll need:

 *Size H and G hooks

 *I love this yarn in Mulberry/purple, Black, Royal Blue, Light Orange, Orange, White, and Ivory/off white

 *Crochet needle for sewing in ends

Gauge: H hook, 9dc x 4rows = 2.5x2.5

Abbreviations:

*ch- chain 

*slst- slip stitch                                     

*sc- single crochet 

*dc- double crochet

*CSDC- chainless starting double crochet

*MC- Magic Circle

Note: I’ve omitted the chains at the begging of the rounds to get rid of the seam. I’ve added the chainless starting double crochet instead. The CSDC of each round will act like your chain and will be hidden in your work and not crocheted into. Make sure you place your last dc in the same stitch you placed your CSDC, and slst to the 1st dc of the round. You’ll be skipping over the CSDC when you slst to join.  (See pics below)

Newborn Size Hat- With Mulberry/purple, Black, Royal Blue, and an H hook

Round 1: MC, ch1 and place 10sc in the MC. Slst to join. (10)

Round 2: CSDC, dc in same stitch, 2dc in each stitch around. Slst to join. (20)

Round 3: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next, 2dc in next) repeat * around. Slst to join. (30)

Round 4: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next 2, 2dc in next) repeat * around. Slst to join. (40)

Round 5: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next 3, 2dc in next) repeat * around. Slst to join. (50)

Round 6: CSDC, dc in each stitch around. Slst to join. (50) Tie off and weave in ends.

Switch to Black Yarn

Round 7-9: ch1, dc in each stitch around. Slst to join. (50) Tie off and weave in ends.

Switch to Royal Blue Yarn

Round 1: MC, ch1 and place 10sc in the MC. Slst to join. (10)

Round 2: CSDC, dc in same stitch, 2dc in each stitch around. Slst to join. (20)

Child Size Hat- With Mulberry/Purple, Black, Royal Blue, and an H hook

Round 1: MC, ch1 and place 10sc in the MC. Slst to join. (10)

Round 2: CSDC, dc in same stitch, 2dc in each stitch around. Slst to join. (20)

Round 3: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next, 2dc in next) repeat * around. Slst to join. (30)

Round 4: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next 2, 2dc in next) repeat * around. Slst to join. (40)

Round 5: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next 3, 2dc in next) repeat * around. Slst to join. (50)

Round 6: CSDC, dc in same stitch, (*dc in next 4, 2dc in next) repeat * around. Slst to join. (60)

Round 7-12: CSDC, dc in each stitch around. 
Slst to join. (60) Tie off and weave in ends.

Switch to Black Yarn

Round 13-16: ch1, dc in each stitch around. Slst to join. (60) Tie off and weave in ends.

Switch to Royal Blue Yarn

Braids (smaller sizes)

Right Side: Cut 12 pieces of light orange yarn and 12 pieces of dark orange yarn at 30in. Divide the pieces up so that you have 2 pieces of light orange and 2 pieces of dark orange per spot. Attach yarn to hat leaving 1 stitch between each section. Braid right side. (6 sections)

Left Side: Cut 10 pieces of light orange yarn, 10 pieces of dark orange yarn, and 4 pieces of white yarn at 30in. Divide the light and dark orange colors so that you have 2 of each color for each spot. Attach yarn to hat leaving 1 stitch between each section and make sure to attach your white section of yarn in the middle. Braid left section making sure that your white section is showing. (5 sections of light/dark orange, 1 section of white)

Braids (Larger sizes)

Right Side: Cut 20 pieces of light orange yarn and 20 pieces of dark orange yarn at about 4ft. Divide the pieces up so that you have 2 pieces of light orange and 2 pieces of dark orange per spot. Attach yarn to hat leaving 1 stitch between each section. Braid right side. (10 sections)

Left Side: Cut 16 pieces of light orange yarn, 16 pieces of dark orange yarn, and 6 pieces of white yarn at about 4ft. Divide the light and dark orange colors so that you have 2 of each color for each spot. Attach yarn to hat leaving 1 stitch between each section and make sure to attach your white section of yarn in the middle. Braid left section making sure that your white section is showing. (8 sections of light/dark orange, 2 section of white)
