Note: I’ve omitted the chains at the
begging of the rounds to get rid of the seam. I’ve added the chainless starting
double crochet instead. The CSDC of each round will act like your chain and
will be hidden in your work and not crocheted into. Make sure you place your
last dc in the same stitch you placed your CSDC, and slst to the 1st dc of
the round. You’ll be skipping over the CSDC when you slst to join. (See
pics below)

Round 1: MC, ch1 and place 10 sc in the MC. Slst to join. (10)
Round 2: CSDC, dc in same stitch and each stitch around ending with a dc in
the same stitch as your CSDC. Slst to first dc to join. (20) (you’ll be
skipping over the CSDC when you join)
Round 3: CSDC, dc in same stitch, dc in next stitch, (*2dc, dc) repeat from *
around ending with a dc in the same stitch as your CSDC. Slst to first dc to
join. Tie off and weave in ends. (30)
Switch to Orange
Round 4: Attach Orange with a SSC in the space between your stitches,
(*ch2, skip 1 stitch space, sc in the next space between stitches) repeat from *
around ending with a ch1. Slst to join. Tie off and weave in ends. (16sc, 16

Switch to White yarn
Round 5: Attach White in any ch2 space with a SHDC, hdc in same space,
hdc in sc of previous round, (*place 2hdc in each of your ch2 spaces and a hdc
in each of your sc spots) repeat from * around ending with as hdc in the last sc
spot. Slst to first hdc to join. Tie off and weave in ends. (47)
Switch to Orange
Round 6: Attach Orange with a SSC in the space between your stitches,
(*ch2, skip 1 stitch space, sc in the next space between stitches) repeat from *
around ending with a ch1. Slst to join. Tie off and weave in ends. (24sc, 24

Switch to Navy Blue
Round 7: Attach Navy Blue in any ch2 space with a SDC, dc in same
space, dc in sc of previous round, (*place a dc in each of your ch2 spaces and

Round 8-9: CSDC, dc in next stitch and each stitch around placing your last dc

Round 10: Attach Orange with a SSC in the space between your stitches,

Laces- With white yarn and a tapestry needle, sew laces on to front of hat.
Toddler/Child Hat - With Navy Blue and an H hook
*Remove Round 15 for Toddler sizes
